Why Incubator is called BOD incubator?

In microbiology, there are two types of incubator used for incubation purpose.
1. Bacteriological incubator
2. BOD incubator

Bacteriological incubator is used for the growth of bacteria and BOD incubator is used for the growth of fungus (yeast & molds) . So question comes in mind that why fungal incubator is called BOD incubator? 
As we know full form of BOD is biological oxygen demand but the question is that what is the role of biological oxygen demand in incubator. Incubators only provide required temperature for the growth of microorganisms. So there is no relation of BOD with the incubator but instead of this it is called BOD incubator. The reason is that when we perform biological oxygen demand (BOD) testing it requires low temperature like 20-25 degree celsius and that BOD testing we perform in this incubator that's why it is called BOD incubator.

    ramki, In microbiology two types of incubators are commonly used. Bacteriological incubators and BOD incubators. These incubators are only used to provide specific temperature for the growth of bacteria and fungus. Bacteriological incubators provide 30-35°C temperature for the growth of bacteria and BOD incubators provide 20-25°C temperature for the growth of fungus. In BOD incubators full form of BOD is biological oxygen demand. BOD (biological oxygen demand) is a type of test used to measure the amount of dissolved oxygen needed by microorganisms in water source to breakdown the organic matter. But what is the connection of biological oxygen demand (BOD) to that BOD incubator which only provide specific temperature and why the name is given BOD incubator? The name is given BOD incubator because for performing BOD (biological oxygen demand) test there is requirement of low temperature (20-25°C) and that incubator only fulfil that temperature requirement. That’s why it is called BOD incubator. Hope you understand now.

      Bhaskar according to me you have to just focus on the basic things first. Basics should be clear in all aspects. As you said you perform BET and EM but to perform BET or EM is not a big deal because you have to just follow the written procedure (SOP's) but good knowledge about BET, EM and other topics is important. Different interviewer asks different questions. You have to just interview yourself and ask three questions to yourself. Why, How and When.
      Why I am doing this? How I have to do this? and When i have to do this? you will get the answers on particular topic.Just expand your thinking, knowledge and area.Good luck...

      Nitish, fan is given in incubator as air circulate through out the chamber to provide uniform distribution of temperature through out the chamber.

    Sandeep,I partially agree with you.My question is that BOD incubator is using for only temperature requirement?As per my knowledge we can maintain that temperature in normal incubator also.

      Vamsi, BOD incubator is only used to fulfill temperature requirement.But with BOD incubator one advantage is that you can use BOD incubator for different temperature requirement like 20-25°C, 30-35°C or 2-8°C because in that incubator compressor is there to maintain low temperature also but in simple incubator you can't set the temperature lower than the room temperature because there is no provision in simple incubator to lower down the temperature. It works as per room temperature. Hope I am clear on this topic.

    in bacteriological incubator you need to maintain a temperature of 37 C which represents the core temperature of humans and all human pathogen, which cause systemic infection, grow well at this temperature. This incubator has a heat source and some have a fan to evenly distribute the heat.

    A BOD incubator is required if you wish to study skin pathogens and you know that fungal skin infections are the commonest. The skin temperature is 22 to 28 C (as is the room temperature in many places. A BOD incubator has the ability maintain the temperature in this range. In the tropical countries where the outside temperature is higher than 40 C, the room temperature too would be high, so you need an incubator which can lower (not raise) the temperature to 22 to 28 C, so anyone studying fungal infections would need a BOD incubator.
